Sandwiches are big business. Millions of people everyday make or buy a sandwich for their lunch as a quick and convenient meal. What used to satisfy us, cheese and tomato on two slices of chewy white read, is simply no longer good enough for our more continental tastes. Now we like exotic fillings such as brie and salmon. We also expect a lot more from the bread that the sandwiches are made from.

French bread is the number one choice of consumers for pre-packaged sandwiches and those that are served in pubs and cafes. however when you are buying French bread or making it every day, it can be expensive and time consuming. This is why it is so convenient that food service companies have begun to mass supply French bread of different lengths to the catering industry.

The companies will part bake and freeze the French bread. Then, when you need to use the bread all it takes is a few seconds on defrost in the microwave and to be pooped into a hot oven. This makes for deliciously crispy crusts and soft insides. And this is what French bread should be like. These can be purchased in large quantities and kept frozen for a number of weeks. If the buyer does not have a constant number of customers, this is ideal because they do not have to buy fresh bread which might not get sold.

because this would result in a lot of wasted bread. A poor deal for the environment and for the profits of the caterer. Stock levels can be managed with frozen food so that you never run out.

Food service businesses sell a large number of frozen foods to the catering sector as a convenient and cheaper way of supply. Other products include garlic baguettes and slices, naan breads and crumpets. Taste tests are paid for by the food service companies so the caterers do not have to worry about their customers not liking these products, which is another bonus.

French bread, when supplied in this way, provides excellent value for money and the ability to make a profit whilst supplying consumers with the quality sandwiches that they demand.
